Phoenix was a top place to move in 2016, according to a new list from Penske Truck Rental.
The truck rental company, which analyzed one-way consumer truck rental reservations, found that Phoenix was the third most popular moving destination in 2016. That placed Phoenix just behind Dallas/Fort Worth (No. 2) and Atlanta (No. 1) and ahead of Denver (No. 4), Tampa/Sarasota, Florida (No. 5).
The Valley has traditionally been a popular place to relocate, particularly for individuals and companies from colder climates. Phoenix was hard-hit during the housing bust that led to the last recession. But the region — and it’s housing market — has been on the mend.
The median home value for Phoenix in 2016 was $200,900, according to Penske, representing a 9.4 percent increase from the previous year.
Realtor.com projects Phoenix to be the No. 1 housing market in 2017.
This is the seventh year Penske has released its list of top moving destinations. Atlanta has topped the list every year. Phoenix has never fallen lower than the No. 5 position, according to Penske.
Here are the top 10 moving destinations in 2016, according to Penske:
- Dallas/Fort Worth
- Las Vegas
